Josh, 14-years old, was recognized as being among the top 10 middle school bass players in the State of New Jersey by virtue of his selection as a member of the New Jersey All-State Intermediate Orchestra. He competed with student musicians from throughout New Jersey in a rigorous audition and selection process conducted by the New Jersey Music Educators Association (NJMEA), which is a federated State Unit of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), a voluntary, non-profit organization representing all phases of music education in schools, colleges, universities and teacher-education institutions.

Josh first auditioned successfully for the Region 1 (North Jersey) Junior Orchestra in February and performed with the orchestra in March at a concert held at West Essex Middle School. He then went on to successfully audition for the New Jersey All-State Intermediate Orchestra in late March and performed with that orchestra as its Fourth Seat upright bass player in a concert held on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Community Middle School in Plainsboro.
Josh began his musical studies by playing the violin as a 3rd and 4th Grader at Lester C. Noecker Elementary School in Roseland. In the summer before beginning 5th Grade, he began playing the Upright Bass, which he has played ever since. At West Essex Middle School he has been an active participant in all of the school’s orchestras, plays the Electric Bass for the Jazz Band, and has accompanied the school choruses. He has also played with the Youth Orchestras of Essex County (YOEC) for two years.
In addition to his musical activities, Josh is active in Scouting as a member of Boy Scout Troop 3 in Caldwell; he currently holds a rank of Life Scout and is actively working towards his Eagle rank. He also enjoys riding bikes, playing sports and hanging out with his friends. Josh is the son of his proud parents, Randy and Hillary, and has a younger sister, Sabrina.
Josh was accompanied by his father, Randy, and West Essex Middle School Principal David Montgomery and Assistant Principal Lisa Tamburri. The Board’s Commendation was co-sponsored and presented by Freeholder Vice President Patricia Sebold of Livingston and Freeholder Leonard Luciano of West Caldwell.
