(Newark, NJ) – During its Wednesday, June 13th, meeting held at the Hall of Records, the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored Bloomfield Police Officer Luca M. Piscitelli for been named Essex County’s “Top Gun” by the Office of the New Jersey Attorney General for his 21 DWI arrests in 2011, more than any other police officer in Essex County. The Board’s Commendation was sponsored and presented to Officer Piscitelli by District 5 Freeholder Brendan Gill of Montclair, who represents the Township of Bloomfield.
Officer Piscitelli was presented with his “Top Gun” Award during the “New Jersey Remembers” ceremony held on April 24, 2012, at the Trenton War Memorial Building in Trenton, New Jersey, an annual event intended to bring awareness to the tragedies associated with impaired driving and to commemorate the lives lost as a result of impaired drivers. The event included presentations to 21 Police Officers, one from each county in the state, as well as to four New Jersey State Troopers, one from each of the four barracks, who made the most DWI arrests during 2011 in recognition of their efforts to help lessen the tragic impact impaired drivers make on the state’s roads and highways.
Officer Piscitelli was sworn-in as a Township of Bloomfield Police Officer on March 17, 2006, and graduated from the Essex County Police Academy on August 11, 2006, in the top of his class. Since then, he has attended many training classes and received certifications in the following areas: Radar Operator, Traffic Accident Investigation Courses I & II, Crash Scene Investigation, Vehicle Dynamics, NJSP Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Radar Operator Instructor, Crash Reconstruction, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, and Tactical Combat Casualty Care.
In addition to his 2011 “Top Gun” award, Officer Piscitelli was awarded a Letter of Recognition by the Attorney General’s Office in 2010 for the 20 DWI arrests he made that year. He has also received 5 Letters of Commendation from the Bloomfield Police Department. He is currently assigned to the Bloomfield Police Department’s Patrol Division on the 4:00 AM shift, where he has worked most of his career. Officer Piscitelli was born and raised in Bayonne, graduated from Bayonne High School in 1999, and then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design from Montclair State University in 2003.
“I want to congratulate you for your well-deserved ‘Top Gun’ award”, said Freeholder Gill, “and even more importantly, I want to thank you for everything you and your fellow officers do every day to keep the residents of Bloomfield safe.”
