ESSEX COUNTY FREEHOLDERS CELEBRATE THE
60TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY OF JOSHUA & HESTER DAVIS, JR.
Diamond Anniversary of East Orange Couple Celebrated During Surprise Ceremony

(Newark, NJ) – The Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored Joshua and Hester Davis, Jr., of East Orange on their 60th Wedding Anniversary during a surprise ceremony held during the Board’s Wednesday, December 14, 2011, meeting at the Hall of Records.
Joshua Davis, Jr., born in North Carolina, graduated from Eastern High School in Hollister, North Carolina, and moved to New Jersey in 1950. Hester Davis (nee Reid) grew up in West Orange, and graduated from West Orange High School. The couple first met during the summer of 1950 and, not long thereafter, wed on December 15, 1951, at Wells Cathedral in Newark.
Mr. Davis worked for Western Electric as a forklift driver and telephone wire equipment operator in the early 1960’s before joining New Jersey Bell in 1969, where he worked as a residential and public telephone technician until his retirement in 1994 after 25 years of service. Mrs. Davis has been employed by the State of New Jersey for more than 34 years, and currently works as an Interviewer for the WorkFirst New Jersey office in Newark.
The Davises are the proud parents of four children: Essex County Freeholder Clerk Deborah Davis Ford, Valerie, Joshua, III, and Shamon. They are also the loving grandparents of seven.
